HYANNIS – Dec. 19, 2007 – Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod (H &PCCC) is pleased to announce that David W. Rehm has accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer and is slated to begin sometime in early February. He succeeds Marilyn Hannus, who is retiring after 22 years with H & PCCC. The organization is Cape Cod’s longest serving and only freestanding non-profit hospice.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to provide the next generation of leadership to an organization with such a proud heritage of service to the Cape Cod community”, Mr. Rehm said. “My wife and I are delighted to be returning home to Southern New England.”

Mr. Rehm comes to H & PCCC from his current post as President and CEO of the Washington Home and Community Hospices in Washington D.C., one of the first hospices in the country, and the hospice that cared for Art Buchwald. Previous to that position, Mr. Rehm served initially as the Vice President of Operations for VistaCare’s Eastern and Western regions, providing leadership for more than 25 operating hospice sites throughout the United States. Subsequently, he served as VistaCare’s Senior Vice President for Business Development, with responsibility for strategic relationships, mergers and acquisitions, and new site development.
Mr. Rehm has been a leader in hospice for the past 19 years.  Prior to joining VistaCare in 1998, he served as Vice President for End Of Life Care and Long Term Care for the Lifespan Health System, and as President/CEO of Hospice Care of Rhode Island (HCRI).  He also served as a member of HCRI's Board and Executive Committee.  Under Mr. Rehm's leadership, HCRI became the largest provider of palliative care and hospice services in New England.
Before becoming involved with hospice, Mr. Rehm devoted 10 years of service to the Kent County Mental Health Center where he served as Associate Director.  He is a licensed independent practitioner in psychiatric social work and a founder of a private practice group that provided counseling services to children, adolescents and families.
Mr. Rehm is a nationally credentialed certified social worker (ACSW) with a Bachelor’s Degree from Brown University and a Master’s Degree from Simmons College School of Social Work.  He has held a faculty appointment to the Brown University School of Medicine and is a frequent speaker on end-of-life issues.  He has served as an officer and board member for numerous organizations including Aging 2000, Hospice Coop USA, Rhode Island Partnership for Homecare, Mental Health Association of Rhode Island, Governor’s Council on AIDS, the Rape Crisis Center of Rhode Island, and Interfaith Healthcare Ministries.
