The Grief Support & Referral Center is dedicated to providing counseling and support to individuals and groups facing the stress of a life-limiting disease or experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one.
Individual, family and group sessions are offered across the Cape at home, schools, our offices, or other convenient and appropriate settings.
Support groups include drop-in groups and multi-week grief support groups. A healing opportunity for education, reflection and sharing, support groups can address specific types of losses, such as that of a spouse, child, parent or sibling.
Community education workshops to schools, business, health care providers and other community organizations
Groups
New groups are formed as needed and run 4 – 8 weeks. During this time, children are encouraged to talk about their experiences, and, most importantly, to share with other kids who have lost a loved one. Using art, expressive therapy and play therapy techniques, participants have fun and find relief from the anxiety and fear they have been experiencing. When the initial group is completed, the children are invited to continue in a drop-in group, which lasts the rest of the year.
Individual counseling
Individual counseling is offered to children who need an assessment of their grief and follow-up counseling with a licensed childhood grief counselor. Individual and family counseling is also offered to parents, relatives and family groups who are living with a loss.
Living with a life-threatening illness - Kids Grieve Too!®
We also provides support to families and kids who have a family member with a terminal illness. This may involve regular office visits and, in the care of very small children, visits to the home. We are committed to helping families support their youngest members through the journey of serious illness.
School Services
We facilitate grief groups and in-service presentations in schools. Both can be arranged any time and are provide on a fee-for-service basis.
Referral Services
We provide referral services for those children who may be experiencing complicated grief. After assessing your child’s needs, we screen and identify the appropriate therapist. Your child will also be assessed at that time for our ongoing support grief groups for children who have experienced a loss.
Fees
In accordance with hospice policy, no one is turned away based on inability to pay. Sliding scale payment arrangements are available. Call us at 508-957-0200 for more specifics.
