Kind Words
"I am still stunned at the overwhelming kindness, concern and professionalism that each nurse and health careworker demonstrated. We will forever be thankful to all of you for easing the pain for my husband, myself and our family. Thanks to all of you, the world is a more beautiful place."

When you or someone you love is seriously ill..

.....you need to know whom you can count on for support and care. Welcome to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod. We’re here for you, wherever you are, whenever you need us most.

Founded in 1981, Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod is the area’s first and only independent non-profit organization offering hospice services. We are the hospice provider most often cited by local health care professionals as having the best reputation, the one they say their patients would most prefer to use, and to whom they would most likely refer their own family members. End-of-life care is what we do. Our commitment to this important cause means that you and your family receive the benefits of our long-term expertise and dedication, with an emphasis on comfort and caring, rather than curing. We create customized personal support and treatment plans that meet the physical, emotion and spiritual needs of both patient and family, carried out by our interdisciplinary team.

Our staff of over 100 medical and support professionals and more than 200 trained volunteers serve over 800 patients a year, most in private homes, as well as in long-term care facilities, hospitals and our own gracious Mary McCarthy Hospice House. We also offer grief support services to any Cape Codder experiencing grief or loss, including children through our unique Kids Grieve Too! Program. Community education is available on a wide variety of topics through our Speakers Bureau. We welcome volunteers in many different roles and provide in-depth screening, training and ongoing support. Donations to help us insure that these services can continue to be offered to all regardless of ability to pay. Anyone may make a referral any time 24/7 at 508-957-0200 or 800-642-2423.
Important Mary McCarthy House Announcement
The Mary McCarthy Hospice House is temporarily closed due to renovations - Thursday, June 05, 2008

PLEASE NOTE: The Mary McCarthy Hospice House is temporarily closed due to renovations needed in preparation for licensure as an in-patient unit. All patients are currently being cared for by McCarthy House staff at the Whitehall Estates Assisted Living Center in Hyannis.  We are not accepting new patients at this time, but are glad to assist you with consultation and referrals. We anticipate that the newly licensed McCarthy House Inpatient Unit will be open in July or August. You can check back here for updated information as it comes available.

Five Wishes Booklet

Five Wishes is the first living will that talks about personal, emotional and spiritual needs as well as your medical wishes.  It lets you choose the person you want to make health care decision for you if you are not able to make them for yourself.  Five Wishes lets you say exactly how you wish to be treated if you get seriously ill.  It was written with the help of The American Bar Association's Commission on the Legal Problems of the Elderly and the nation's leading experts in end-of-life care.  It's also easy to use.  All you have to do is check a box, circle a direction, or write a few sentences.
